STS-105

Launch Honoree Event

In 2001, Doug received a NASA Space Flight Awareness Award from NASA and the company for which he worked at the time, Lockheed Martin Space Systems Michoud Operations. As a Launch Honoree, he got to see the launch of Space Shuttle Mission STS-105, which flew on August 10, 2001 and landed on August 22. Doug and Rose were treated to a week at Cocoa Beach, Florida. Festivities included the Astronaut Reception, an insider's tour of Kennedy Space Center during the launch of the Delta rocket carrying the NASA Genesis spacecraft, a Lockheed Martin Banquet, and a view of the launch of Space Shuttle Discovery from the Banana Creek VIP viewing site near the Apollo/Saturn V center at KSC.
